update

Well, since my last post when Makena slept 11 hours, she has consistently slept 11-12 hours every night.  HOORAY!  Wait...let me knock on wood really fast...ok I'm back.  It has definitely made bedtime a lot more pleasant and predictable!  Bath, Goodnight Moon, eat, sleep.  Terrific!

On the other side of things, she doesn't sleep much during the day.  Cat naps of 15, 20, 30 min.  A good trade for night sleeping though.  She is really alert and talkative.  She is different from Nanea, or from what I can remember of Nanea at that age.  Maybe it's just that I'm more easy going this time around, but she does seem more mellow and well, just alert.  It's like she's taking everything in and absorbing everything around her.

I'm still thinking that her hair will be curly.  It's a completely different texture than Nanea's was, and much, much shorter.  The left side is actually a lot longer than the right.  It's a little strange.  Although everyone says she looks like Noa, Nanea did as well, and yet they look completely different.  Makena has very big, round eyes and chubby chubby cheeks.  She is just a really sweet, love-able baby!

I don't do baby books...

But blogging can count, right?  I had originally thought that I would do a baby book for Nanea, but could never find one that I liked.  I am really picky about my paper and stationary (Mikie and Dana G. can sympathize with me on this one), so I could never find one that I liked well enough to record all the milestones.  I think I have caught a lot of them here though, all the while sharing them with my friends and family who read my kid's blogs.

I took these 2 photos yesterday.  I had a little Makena that would not nap.  She was surprisingly in good spirits though, and "played" on her froggy play yard, listening to Baby Bach for a good 45 minutes or so in the afternoon.  Gave me some time to do some work and listen to her talk a little.  I really thought she would never go to sleep, but after a very fussy bath (over tired), she ate and went to sleep at about 7:30pm.  She then proceeded to sleep until 6:30AM!!!  Yes, she slept 11 HOURS.  WHOO HOOOO!!!!  Can you tell I'm happy?  Yes, very happy.  Lots of sleep makes for a happy baby.  She woke up, ate, then went back to sleep for about an hour.  To make my life even better, Nanea slept until just after 7am.  Which is pretty good for her.  I'm still crossing my fingers (and toes) that this is the start of a trend for Makena.  I'm having a bit of a struggle trying to figure out how I'll do the sleep training I did with Nanea with Makena since letting Makena cry isn't really an option because it wakes Nanea up and she wants to check on her.  That girl has superman hearing.  We'll see how it goes!

Enough pictures already!

Noa and I are just sick enough to think that this is really, really funny.  And no, we did not make her hand this way.  She fell asleep on my shoulder, and when I looked down, this is what I saw.  Good thing Noa was home because otherwise I wouldn't have captured this moment.  Or maybe it's bad he was there to take the picture...

On a side note, Makena slept through the night for the first time last night.  She slept from 9pm - 5:20am.  I know the first time doesn't necessarily mean she'll do it again any time soon, but it's a step in the right direction.  And I got 7 hours of straight sleep and felt like a new woman.  I feel the bags under my reducing already :)!

2 Months Old!

Makena turned 2 months old yesterday and celebrated by going to the doctor and having 4 shots!  apart from that, she is doing very well.  Oddly enough, she is almost exactly the same as Nanea was at the same age.  She is 11.9 pounds and 23.5 inches tall.  Nanea was 11.7 pounds.  They even have the same head circumference.  Strange!  So, Makena is tracking well above average.  Looks like we'll have another tall girl.

She is a very good baby.  Sleeps well and has a good temperament.  Of course Nanea was the same and look at her now :)!  She smiles all the time, and is starting to "talk" a bit.  She is very strong, and already holds her head up for long periods of time, and pushes off of things with her feet.  I think she will be sitting up in her bebe pod before long.

Those last 10 pounds...

So, the weight is just not coming off like the last time, go figure.  I can't remember how fast I lost the weight the last time, but I think it was faster than this.  In fact, I gained about 28 pounds, and then lost close to 50.  All with nursing and walking.  Granted, I did not walk quite as much as I did the last time, and have hardly walked since giving birth, but darn it, why can't it all be the same :)??  So, in an attempt to get off my butt, I've signed up with Stroller Strides.  It's a group of moms who meet up with a trainer and walk/run, and do arm/leg/ab workouts.  All this and you bring your kids, hence the "stroller."  It's really great so far.  A very supportive work out environment, and the kids play at the playground while the moms do their workout.  You can stop to nurse if needed, and babies crying aren't a big deal.  I am also doing Wii Fit thanks to my mom who sent it to us since we can't find it anywhere on the island.  I don't know how great of a workout it ends up being, but it sure is fun.  I've discovered that I am very, very bad at all of the balancing "games."  Tiff would probably not be surprised since they take coordination.  However, I am good at the yoga and strength "games."

On another "wellness" note, Whole Foods opened today (at 7am) in Hawaii.  The first one!  Since natural and organic products are severely lacking here, I was extremely excited for this event.  It turned out to be all that I had hoped, with so many products that you can't find anywhere else, and all of my most favorite things.  I worried that they would not ha
ve a lot of what I am used to seeing due to shipping costs, but it was all there.  Greek yogurt with honey, dolmas, and so much more!  The most exciting thing is the great selection of organic jarred, fresh and frozen baby food.  All that I missed with Nanea in my quest to feed her as organic-ly as possible.  No, I did not go at 7am, though trust me, I would have if I could have, but Makena had her 2 month check-up today (more on that later).  But, we went right after, and although the crowd outside almost made me turn around to go straight home (I HATE crowds!!), I took a deep breath and dove in.  Am I glad I did.  It was extremely insane in there, but the check out lines were efficient and fast.  I will get there at 7am some day soon so I can really enjoy the store...

The favored sleeping spot

This is pretty much the only place Makena will sleep during the day.  Ironically, Nanea HATED this thing, which we purchased because everyone we knew with kids told us that all kids love the swing and it was the best place to get them to sleep.  So, it's pretty much brand new.  She probably went in it twice for 10 seconds each time.  Even more ironic is that the darned batteries corroded in there so now the automatic swinging mechanism does not work.  The extremely annoying music works (go figure), but not the swing.  And, we have to swing to sleep, or at least stay sleeping.  So guess what I do in order to get things done during the day?  Yes, I push the swing.  And run back from wherever I am to keep the stupid thing swinging every 2 min or so.  I refuse to buy a new one.  1 - it's brand new!  and 2 - they are too expensive.  Any one know anything about wiring that may want to take a look at it to see if it can be fixed?  I would be forever grateful...then again, maybe it's good exercise for me...

Attack of the killer (?) Lady Bug (book)...

This was one of Nanea's favorite books/toys when she was an infant.  Makena likes it too, but tends to grab one of the legs and throw it over her face.  I start to hear fussing and grumbling and walk over to see this.  She is awake, just trying to figure out how to get it off her face I think...
